Get ready for the RSS Summer Sewalong

The Ruby Star Society team are kicking off a SAL to make this cheery picnic plaid quilt and all of the action starts on 20 June.

By focusing on the placement of value this year's sewalong project is not only charming, but also beginner friendly.  Plus with the largish sized squares it is a great project to showcase some of the larger scale prints.

The Ruby Star Society team will be leading the RSS Summer Sew-along over on Instagram via the #rsssummersewalong hashtag.  Here's the schedule which looks like a nice  and relaxed pace:

June 20: Cut fabric
June 27: Make Blocks 2, 3 & 4 or Rows 2
July 5: Make Blocks 1 or Rows 1
July 11: Catch up week
July 18: Assemble your quilt top

Kits galore

Once I started pulling fabrics for kits, I just couldn't stop, and there's four to choose from.  All using Ruby Star Society fabrics of course!

Sew all of the iconic designs with the Darlings 2 kit.  I included plenty of the precious stuff like typewriters, rollerskates, mushrooms and Rashida's snow leopards.

If lush florals and butterflies are more your lane then I've got you covered with the Camellia kit.  I'm using Speckled in purple for the binding to pick up that flash of purple in the Parlor floral.  With the teacups and spoon designs this one will be set for totally posh picnics.

The Tomato Tomato kit has shots of bright primary colours and softened with pinks and powdery blues. Maybe it is just the grey weather, but right now this one is my favourite.

And last but not least I took a page out of the Ruby Star Society catalogue and kitted up their Hole Punch Dot version.  This is the one for you if you'd prefer the palette to be the focus rather than the prints.

Kits are$169
